TO Digital Distributism

Digital Industrialism TO Digital Distributism

How did digital exponential growth become the enemy of society?

How will Digital Distributism redistribute capital fairly?

Continued economic growth in itself will stimulate the flow of money, if people accept the fundamentals about humanity – people matter and sufficiency keeps the planet spinning.

How can the digital distributism economy add value and creativity to people, unlike our current philosophy of extracting value to the top of the order?

The short answer is to create co-operative platforms giving people working on joint projects, ownership stakes. Production needs to be owned by the people involved. That is the short answer, but we have to move to this new economy.

Growth at any costs is our current situation, and it is getting worse; resulting in people becoming merely cogs in an industrial economy. Workers are disconnected from the value they create. We are running a system that has reached its pinnacle in its ability to serve anyone, rich or poor. Digitisation is speeding up the process to the benefit of a few powerfully wealthy individuals and conglomerates. This operating economic system has turned people into uncreative debt-machines. Growth is now simple, turn up the digital revolution and push forward relentlessly into the growth trap.

Money dominates and runs the world. How will this operating system ever fairly share resources, property, education, water, the benefits of nature or even space travel? The current consumerism-operating system will not solve the problem despite rising prosperity in the system. The exponential growth will bring more monopolies as the giant goliaths take over every day ”Davids”.

The goliaths must fall, with digitalism being used for the economic benefit of “the people”. The platform monopolies need to be replaced by co-operative platforms as exponential growth is replaced with sustainable sufficiency prosperity.

Stock markets and banks will be replaced with crowd economy which includes crowdsourcing, leveraging assets, crowdlending, and crowdfunding; like Kickstarter and Indie Go-Go have done. There are many examples underway: Airbnb is a one where they have become a hotel chain throughout the world without owning a single hotel room. This is through leveraging people’s assets. Unfortunately, this example should be based on a co-operative platform owned by the people with the assets; but it is not.

If Uber drivers owned the Uber platform, they would benefit from their co-operative efforts in their local markets. The driver’s research and development would benefit individuals and the entire platform of world drivers. Sadly it is not the case. The wealth now gets extracted to the hierarchy.

It is not necessarily the business model that must change, but rather the disruptive monopoly ownership, changing to co-operative ownership of people involved in the project. This will allow money to flow around society and not be stored in corporate vaults or spent recklessly on self-fulfilment and glorification.

Digital Industrialization, let’s use Uber and Amazon as examples, extract value from everything like their communities, the environment, competitors, government, stock market, employees, monopolise the industry and turn it into exponential growth for the already obese rich. How long will this continue before people’s wages and assets diminish to a point where they cannot support consumerism? Demand for products is related to people’s income and debt limits. Governments in many countries are printing money based on nothing of value to prop-up their economy. How long will it last? We have reached the limits of this consumerism madness. It has to change, or we will be forced to change through financial collapse, climatic disasters or both together.

How will we share resources for the benefit of all people and the planet?

It is not about digital technology. It is about egotistic, greedy materialists who want more; more power and control. Society needs to be re-programmed with individual and social values for everyone to be involved in a sustainable future based on “people Matter”. We need to stay as, and develop as human beings; not be lost in digital social media where our individuality erodes, and our friends are robots on line. Perhaps there is a cyber renaissance around the corner, but I doubt it.

Digital technology will help society to prosper in a distributism economy. We need digital technology for people to bring about a new “society caring” economy, where people matter.
